Plex provides multiple ways of accessing content, such as a \u003ca href=\"https://app.plex.tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\"\u003eweb client\u003c/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\"\u003eapps for many devices\u003c/a\u003e.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 id=\"what-does-it-cost\"\u003eWhat does it cost?\u003c/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTL;DR: The \u003cstrong\u003eweb client and basic features are free\u003c/strong\u003e, apps can be unlocked for a one time payment (~5€) each and additional features require a subscription.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cblockquote\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe basic functionality of Plex is completely free, which includes playback of anything on your server, as well as podcasts, news, and web shows. Click on \u0026ldquo;I accept the invitation\u0026rdquo;.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOpen \u003ca href=\"https://plex.boegle.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\"\u003emy Plex web client\u003c/a\u003e and sign in.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ol\u003e\n\u003ch3 id=\"the-default-settings-are-dumb\"\u003eThe default settings are dumb\u003c/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u0026hellip;let\u0026rsquo;s fix them.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlex provides shitty content and questionable \u0026ldquo;news\u0026rdquo; by default while hiding the things that we actually want to access.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNavigate to the settings (tools icon in the top right) and change the following things to your liking:\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ccode\u003ePlex Web \u0026gt; General \u0026gt; Language\u003c/code\u003e Set your preferred interface language\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ccode\u003ePlex Web \u0026gt; General \u0026gt; Time Format\u003c/code\u003e I need at least 24 hours\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ccode\u003ePlex Web \u0026gt; Quality \u0026gt; Video quality\u003c/code\u003e I recommend \u0026ldquo;8 Mbps, 1080p\u0026rdquo;, do not set it too high\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ccode\u003eOnline Media Sources\u003c/code\u003e ❗ Please set everything to \u0026ldquo;disabled\u0026rdquo;. Click on \u0026ldquo;More\u0026rdquo; and pin categories under the header \u0026ldquo;irgendwr NAS\u0026rdquo; that you want to access (such as Movies and Shows), unpin everything that you are not interested in.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou should now have a usable interface.
